Why does fiberboard mold? What is the reason for mold on fiberboard? How to deal with moldy fiberboard? How to prevent mold on fiberboard?
Reason for mold formation: MDF is a type of density board, also known as fiberboard. It is a natural board made from wood fibers or other animal fibers and applied with urea formaldehyde resin or other suitable adhesives. The material of fiberboard is loose, easy to get damp, and the water content is difficult to control. The glue used in the production of MDF is urea formaldehyde resin, and one of its raw materials is formaldehyde. Formaldehyde has a good killing effect on Staphylococcus, mold, yeast, etc., but for substances with high toxicity, the environmental protection requirements of MDF are improved, and the release of formaldehyde is limited. Instead of using environmentally friendly glue or improving its utilization rate during production or through formaldehyde removal process, in short, the content of free formaldehyde in MDF needs to be reduced. This also makes it more prone to mold problems.
During the rainy season, some boards have been purchased but not yet used, and the boards have already become moldy, mainly due to excessive rain and high humidity in the air. During the decoration process, it has also been found that the board has become moldy, such as before the wall has been painted. This is because both the board and bamboo wood are porous materials that are easy to absorb moisture. Nowadays, the materials are environmentally friendly and do not contain any harmful substances. Both the board and bamboo wood contain cellulose, and mold and bacteria are ubiquitous in the air. With a certain humidity and temperature, mold will grow and multiply, causing MDF to be particularly prone to mold.
How to better deal with the problem of moldy fiberboard? Here, Nantong Boda Biochemical will analyze and provide several suggestions for mold prevention treatment.
Resolvent:
1. If the surface is painted, add an anti-mold agent to the paint and spray it on the surface of the fiberboard to form a moisture-proof and anti-mold layer, which can provide long-lasting and effective anti-mold maintenance for the fiberboard.
2. If a layer of wood veneer is applied to the surface, a new series of adhesive anti-mold agents can be added to the glue used, which can also achieve long-term effective anti-mold effect for MDF.
3. If there is no spray painting or coating, a new type of anti-mold agent can be indirectly applied to the surface of the fiberboard to achieve long-term effective anti-mold.
Firstly, the humidity of wood should be controlled. It is recommended to control the humidity of wood below 12%.
